Keto Ricotta Burger with Tomato Relish

Keto Ricotta Burger with Tomato Relish is a delicious addition to your summer “Burger” menu for the home “grill master” in your family. I somehow became the grill master in our family. However, I rely on Joanie to come up with Tasty Low Carb recipes for our outdoor grill. I know she has a real winner with this Italian burger recipe. Think of it like a “lasagna style” burger. the Ricotta and Tomato Paste combination really adds so much flavor to the burger!

An added benefit to the recipe is the Ricotta and tomato paste ingredients seem to keep the burger from shrinking. Of course, we usually make this recipe with a lower fat content ground beef mix since the flavor comes from the cheese and tomato grilled into the meat. You might even try a ground sirloin! The end result is a moist and flavorful “snack meal.”

Ingredients

We usually vary our toppings, using different combinations to create unique burgers. With so many variations, you can quickly become the “Queen of Burgers.”. An example we enjoy often is our Onion Burger with Gruyère Fondue Sauce. However, this recipe is somewhat different since very unique ingredients are added right into the burger mix. Joanie also added a bit of Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning to the mix for seasoning. She loves her Creole seasoning.

For our Onion Burger with Gruyère Fondue Sauce recipe we also used a “cloud bread” style burger bun. It is delicious and light. Lately, we have switched our “go-to” bun recipe. We now recommend using Joanie’s “Best Keto Yeast Bun Recipe” for your burger buns. You should definitely give that recipe a try. You will have a wheat-like bun that is soft and chewy. They also stay soft and chewy for up to a week, without refrigeration.

Our topping choice for this recipe is a homemade “Tomato Relish.” It is so simple and provides the needed tangy “sweet-n-sour” kick to sautéed tomatoes, onion, and garlic. The relish comes together with “Sukrin Gold” brown sugar substitute and a top-notch red wine vinegar. We like to use an imported organic red wine vinegar made by Fini. You can find it by clicking the picture below. It is delicious. The relish is completed with strips of fresh Basil before plating. The basil continues the Italian burger theme.

Preparation Tips

One of the best parts of this recipe is that it is so quick and easy. You can be on the table in 15 minutes or less. In part, this is because the Tasty Low CarbBest Keto Burger Buns” are prepared in advance. They store well in zip lock bags on the kitchen counter and also freeze well. The actual preparation of the burger patties is simple, too. We just use our hands and incorporate the ingredients.

The total time for cooking the relish is approximately 8 minutes. You basically want to wilt the diced tomatoes and create a sweet-n-sour sauce. The flavor will keep the garlic-onion taste. If you like the relish heavily blended, cook it a bit longer. We like a chunky relish on top of the burger so we cook it quickly. The fresh basil strips make the relish so delicious!

Can I make the relish ahead of time and refrigerate for later? If so, how long will it keep? Thanks in advance for letting me know.

    • Joanie and Chris

Yes, you can make it ahead and it should be good for three days refrigerated. It is best if it is fresh however, but it is okay. Hope you enjoy . . . Joanie.
